Day Two: Breisach, Germany

Breisach is a gateway to the Black Forest region and located in one of the warmest parts of Germany. Breisach boasts about its wine as it is home to Europe’s largest cellars and stores more that 160 million liters.

The Black Forest is known for several fairytale origins with its gingerbread houses, romantic castles, and dark mist-filled woods. It is said that one can imagine Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin, or Snow White scampering into the woods. As one takes in the dark beauty of the Black Forest, they can feel the magic that rekindles their childhood memories.

We chose to do an e-bike tour through nature, vineyards, and the quaint towns. I love to exercise and this was a great way to see parts of this area. We rode about 22 miles and then stopped for lunch. In the photo is a popular flat bread with a cream sauce and bits of meat.

We stopped at a quaint village where the fountain and surrounding houses inspired Disney for the film, Beauty and the Beast. I could imagine Bell singing through the town, “There must be more than this provincial life…”  You can see the fountain in the photo.

After lunch and spending a little time in the village, we rode on. A highlight for me was biking on these paths through the trees. I feel so much joy in nature. And grateful to God, the Creator of it all.
