Sandy and Kim

I admire my late sister, Sandy and her best friend, Kim. They were on opposite sides of the political fence. Kim, a republican, would show up wearing a Trump hat and carrying a Trump pin. He would poke my sister saying, “Put this on your bra.” She, a democrat, would respond, “Get that f @#* thing away from me.” Breaking out in laughter, they would banter back and forth.
Kim was there for my sister and brother-in-law. Through her many back surgeries, suffering in pain, and hospice at the end. Before she died, she told me that Kim was their best friend.
She said they could talk and listen to one another on political issues and then agree to disagree. Neither of them had/have a belief in Christ. Not sure about God either. But they chose to have a loving relationship over being right.
They vowed not to let politics ruin their friendship.
Why can’t we?
Reflection: How does this story speak to you?
Practice: Have your belief and opinions as we all do. Try to show respect for the person on the opposite side. Or choose not to talk about it. Agree to Disagree.
