Lake Desire

Lake Desire, Renton, Washington
Lake Desire, Renton, Washington

My family and I just returned from Lake Desire in Renton, Washington. We went to visit my sister and her family and to enjoy the beautiful nature in Washington.

This lake is relatively small, so the water temperature was in the mid-70s, which is great for swimming and watercraft. I swam in the lake every day, allowing the cool water to refresh and renew my body. My adult daughters chose to do some kayaking, paddle boarding, paddle boating, and canoeing.  I could hear their laughter from across the lake.  Another bonus were the hiking trails, which were clothed in God’s creation of various trees and plants. Such a fun and relaxing vacation.

As many of you know, I connect with God in nature. Each breathtaking moment, as I gazed at this view, filled my heart with joy. Lake Desire’s name speaks for itself. I desire to experience God in nature, be invigorated with swimming, and feel joy being with my family.

I also desire to serve God. I hope to lead two Not Alone groups in the fall and train up new leaders. Just the other day, a spiritual director shared with me that she can see a new countenance in her directee who is going through Not Alone. This woman now knows how much Jesus loves her deep within, even though she experienced sexual trauma.  She desires to be healed and transformed by God, who longs for her to be whole.

What are your desires?

Don’t judge, edit, or criticize them.  Just name what they truly are. We all have desires and most of these God has put in our hearts.

What are your desires for yourself?

What are your desires of God?

Once you have written down your desires, hold them before God and talk to him about them.

Listen. See what he says to you.

Hold his response and your desires close to your heart.
